What Is The Appraisal Clause?

The appraisal clause is found in the declarations section of your auto insurance policy. It gives you the right to challenge the insurance company’s valuation of your totaled vehicle when you believe it is too low.

If you choose to dispute the value, you hire an independent appraiser — like us — and the insurance company hires one as well. Each appraiser prepares a valuation and provides evidence to support their position. If the two appraisers cannot agree, a neutral third party called an umpire<\/strong> is appointed to review the information and make the final binding decision.

The appraisal clause is a legal option built into most Washington State policies. It exists specifically to protect vehicle owners from unfair insurance offers — and most Tacoma drivers don’t even know they have it
